Our list of the top erotic titles made for female gamers.
According to a 2014 study conducted by the Entertainment Software Association, 48% of video game players are female-identified.
Even more remarkable is that boys under 18 made up only 17%, while women over 18 stood at 36%.
Yet most developers have shied away from creating games specifically for women, preferring instead to aim—with content and marketing—at only half of their audience.
This is somewhat understandable in the world of erotic games, as a majority of adult content is consumed by men. But it’s still remarkably short-sighted to pretend that women don’t just play games but might actually like to play sexually explicit ones.
Fortunately, there are some game creators who have recognized this clear fact, and so have developed erotic titles with women in mind—or rather are at least not clearly targeted at one gender over another.
So here is our list of the best sex games for women: not just showing they are good (and sexy) but applauding their developers for realizing what most of us have known for a long time: that women, and women-gamers, actually exist.
Ladykiller in a Bind
Even though we previously covered it in our Top Gay Sex Games for PC and Mac list, Ladykiller in a Bind [NSFW] deserves to be mentioned again as a game created by a woman with women in mind.
In Ladykiller in a Bind, Christine Love has produced a title that is almost equal parts BDSM, lesbian sex, and cross-dressing—plus a little of what Love calls “social manipulation,” i.e. choice-based mechanics that move the story forward.
As far too many titles resort to cliches, Ladykiller also earns its place on this list with its dimensional—and playful—approach to queer sexuality.
No list of the best sex games for women wouldn’t be complete without a nod to both Yaoi and the country that spawned so many of these types of games.
Japan, you see, doesn’t just understand that a lot of women play erotic games but has met this demand with numerous titles—and one of the most popular types is, you guessed it, Yaoi.
Just in case you nodded off in class, Yaoi is basically Japanese for “boy’s love:” meaning anything from novels, manga, to (of course) games that feature some form of queer male romance and even sexual activity.
What’s interesting about Yaoi is that while the storylines are predominantly gay they are created for, and even frequently by, women. For those interested, titles that feature gay men that are created with gay men in mind are called Bara.
Absolute Obedience (Zettai Fukuju Meirei) [NSFW] is here on best sex games for women because it stands as an almost perfect example of Yaoi: a wonderfully stylish, outrageously kinky, and sexually explicit visual novel.
The story, in a nutshell, is that you play as one of two characters who run a “revenge business” in a surreal version of post-war Germany. Your mission: to seduce various characters—ranging from soccer players to even KGB agents—and bring them to their figurative, and sometimes even literal, knees.
Alas, the game is only available on PC but if you have one it’s recommended. Just hang on: it’s going to be a wild ride.
Chathouse 3D Roulette
Another title we have covered previously—and for very good reasons—is the popular erotic multiplayer game Chathouse 3D Roulette [NSFW] from Thrixxx.
While there are similar erotic MMOs out there, such as Red Light Center [NSFW] and 3DXChat [NSFW], Chathouse 3D Roulette goes into our best sex games for women list for its affordability at just $10 a month as well as its staggering amount of customization and myriad game modes.
Yet another game that has frequently been mentioned is the classic, but still engaging, MMO that is Second Life.
Unlike Chathouse 3D Roulette, Second Life is not specifically set up to be an erotic experience. But that hasn’t stopped thousands of users from doing just that: buying and selling all kinds of genitalia and sexual accouterment for their avatars—and setting up elaborate virtual worlds to frolick in.
Because of this blank canvas approach to an MMO, it holds a special place on our best sex games for women because of it has a truly staggering amount of flexibility and openness.
Should games have a gender?
While it is clear that some developers are realizing that plenty of women don’t just play video games but also enjoy the erotic variety a question still remains: what exactly is a woman’s game?
The fact is a great number of female-identified people play games that might be primarily marketed towards men—and male-identified people also enjoy games that might be targeted toward women.
It could even be argued that creating a game for a particular gender is insulting: that the developer is using their own preconceptions of what it is to be a woman—or a man for that matter.
So while we should definitely applaud game creators who have acknowledged the existence of female gamers we should more be hoping that someday developers will completely drop the idea of gender in game design and marketing.
A day when they will realize that people, whatever their preferred gender, play what they want to play.
